My java fern is growing algae on it. Is there any safe way to get it off?

Thanks for the help and it's brown and green hair algae + diatoms because of the new tank.

I agree with mohican,
after that shorten your light period usually 6 hours a day is fine.

You may have a nutrient build up to as well as to much lighting. I'm having the same problem just now caused by a nutrient build up. Good luck.

I had success with using a REALLY soft algae brush (can hardly get algae off the tank walls). it was gentle enough to get brown algae off the leaves of my plants and my aquarium has barely any algae in it. YOu have to make sure the brush is really soft though or else you'll tear your plant's leaves.

Never thought of that. Good tip.
