A picture to be sure you have hair algae would help. How long do you run lights daily? What type lights and bulbs do you have? What are your nitrate and phosphate levels? Is the tank planted? You need to provide some information.

The piece if driftwood came with the algae on it. Will it spread? My tank is planted

If it's only on the driftwood and white, it's most likely not algae but a fungus. This is common in newly submerged driftwood as the organics in the wood begin to leach out and fungus grows to consume it. It subsides on its own (if this is indeed what you have). Otos and nerites would eat it. Or you can rub it off when you do your weekly partial water changes.

Nope they will not

If you can remove it from the tank, then remove it, put paper towels in sink, sit the DW on them, pour Hydrogen Peroxide 3% over the fungus on the DW, then lay the Peroxide drenched paper towels over the DW and leave them sit on it for 20 minutes. Then just put the DW back in the tank and don't rinse it. The Peroxide won't hurt anything in the tank.
