How to start a siphon

I use a powerhead to start my siphon. Haven't had that nasty water in my mouth in years. Lol

Haha, I did this the other day... Cleaning my two tanks, I always clean my 5 after my 10 and the 5 is a pain to get the siphon going... So I put my hand over the end and my lips to my hand(so I wouldn't get nasty water on my lips) Guess I over looked the fact that I just cleaned the 10, and there was still water in the tube... Mouth full of fish water! Yuck! Never thought of capping the end with my thumb, but it's that way from now on!!! Haha

How about starting a u-tube for overflows? I've used airline tubing till the siphon starts. I only do it when It needs cleaned, but it gave me breathing issues for a week, no joke. I kept exhaling even if I had no air in me. It was weird.. What we do for our fish.
