i have a 30 gallon tank how much sand do i need?

I need to bu live sand. buy i need to know how much. please help

Demensions:
30"x12"x18.5"

but i need to only make a thin layer of sand at the bottem.

30"X12"=360 SQ Inches of sand at bottem. how many pounds of sand do i need.

Your calculations aren't helping any. 360 square inches is just the surface area or footprint of your tank. How deep do you want your sandbed? 1"...2"...3"?
