I have two of these in with my convicts. They don't look like the others though. This one in these pics, its mean to all the other fish. I thought it might be protecting eggs or babies but there are none in the tank and its not really protecting any certain area.

look up labidochromis chisumulae, is this anything like it?
and umm thats a lot of convicts, they get to like 8 inches right? how big is the tank?

I looked that up and mine really don't look that pretty. The stripes on mine aren't real dark. Yes, I have a lot of convicts. I have around 40+ in a 30gal, very overstocked. I have gotten rid of a lot and need to get rid of more.

Try lookong up this:

Parrot Cichlid (Hoplarchus psittacus)

Kinda looks like a stressed version of this fish...

I looked up parrot cichlids and I don't think these are the same. I'll try to get a better pic and post it for you.

The Last two are with light shining in it. It doesn't even.look like the same fish with the light shining on it.

If you don't have success here you can try posting it on cichlids.com. They are really good at id-ing fish.

have a look at the copadichromis borleyi female juvi range, they show similarities, or haplochromis ruby green, or astatotilapia nubila. please at least google them, i tried kinda hard x

Thanks to all that have helped. I'll let you know what I find.

Another suggestion I got was that they are juvenile Pundamilia Nyererei. I like this suggestion and hope this one is correct, they are beautiful fish

No, those are grey and have a very different striping pattern than those. Sry.

No luck so far. I guess I'll just have to wait until they get bigger.

I did look but it's so hard to tell for me because mine are so young

I noticed that it now has an orange spot on its anal fin.....

that doesnt say much. manymanymany species get it, male and female. its supposed to be mostly males, but due to inbreeding in captivity females take on males characteristics and vice-versa. my female zebra has 6 egg spots and prettier fins that the male, its already held fry so def a girl.
any other shape / colour developments?

Yeah, I noticed that it's top fin has a blueish tint and the very tip is red. I was catching some of the convicts yesterday to put them in a different tank and I also noticed that it stripes got very dark while I was messing around in the tank.
