Hello, i asked for a male and 2 female swordtails from my local aquatic centre, but from one that is supposed to be a female it has no sword but on its anal fin looks to me like a gonopodium, are you able to tell me if it is or not from the pictures I've attached? Sorry about the water I'm about to do a water change

I have platys, sometimes when they are swimming the anal fin looks skinny like a gonopodium. Maybe it's that? It could also be a male that hasn't reached full maturity.

this is why im asking as i orignally got told its a female so i got one more female and a male but if it turns out to be a male then i need to sort someting out as this will mean i only have 1 female to 2 males

I would but as of this moment my tank is cloudy so trying to clear that up again, and also that fish does not stay still for a second

Alternatively they may have accidentally sold you a male molly that was the same color as the swordtails. It would explain the gonopodium and the lack of a sword.

That could be the case, here's some more pictures hopefully show off the fish better

Yeah definitely looks male to me. He's probably a molly. You can ask the store if you can return him since hes not a female.

Ok thank you for that, at least I now know, I'll figure something out

Well the truth is put it is a male, swordtail as its is starting to grow its tail, I have separated as of now till I find somewhere that'll take it, I appreciate your help
