Jack Dempsey Cichlid

I have a jack dempsey cichlid, and a pleco in a 55 gallon...would like to add something new, maybe a crab, snail or some small fish....the jack dempsey is very aggresive....any suggestions?

I'm a beginner myself, but I do know that Jack Dempsey's certainly have a reputation. Definitely not a small fish, in my opinion.

However, I wonder if a crab would work because of its natural defenses....seems like it would...

If you want a fish, I was thinking if I ever do a cichlid tank that I'd get a red peacock. Beautiful fish in my opinion and if you buy it large enough, it'll hold its own.
