I would look into a pair of smaller centrals like cryptoheros sajica, cutteri, or nanoluteus. Or if you like Archocentrus look at centrarchus or Amatitlania Honduran sp.

With literally hundreds of options of potential fish that seems pretty boring to me. I would spend a little time on Google and look as to what else is out there. I would look into the genus of Australoheros such as sp. red ceibal or oblongum.

The problem is that I can't find any of these I'm my lfs so I was thinking of something that I could actually buy in a store.

Don't let that stop you from having what you want. Have the fish shipped to your house or have your local fish store special order them. The other option is look for local breeders and fish clubs in the area, I'd be willing to bet there is one close by.

Yes, but as I mentioned I would keep two females as opposed to keeping a breeding pair or two males. Plus females generally have far better color and less testosterone than males too.

There are far better options than cons too.

Could you list what these fish are? I'm trying to learn my new worlds and some of those are exquisite.
