I just got some lights and I was wondering how long I should run them.

Ya I just was waiting for the lights to put fish in them and I was wondering how long for a reef tank.

what kind of lights? is it mixed reef? I think most people do 9-12 hours and adjust as needed.

Does it really matter if they are on when there are no fish.

I just got my first coral zoanthids I have a 55g with double bright LEDs where should I put the zoanthids.

Run your lights at about 8 hours starting and adjust as needed. Zoas can be placed in any tank position with any lights but do best in low to moderate water flow.

If these are the Marineland double brights, keep a close eye on your zoas...... if they appear to be "reaching", then they need to be moved farther up. The 36"/48" Marinelands only have 16 x 1w daylight LED's, which is very low light for a 55g, on top of the fact they use inferior bulbs.
