Walmart has black kuhlis as fish of the month. Their tanks have a ph of 8.8-9.0 (they look similar on my test indicator card). I can't believe the fish survived and are still survivng weeks later. I got four and they are doing fine in my 7.8 ph tank. I'm watching for signs of stress, but I don't see any indication that the high ph is doing any harm.

That's a very high pH for a store to keep stock in and there's probably an error in the test or the reading of the test. If the Walmart is close by, then you probably have the same water source, if you're not on individual wells. I'm glad to hear the kuhlis are doing well--fish can go from high to low pH without too many problems, but going up in pH is a different story.

there a hardy fish. if you ever question a fishes hardiness, just look how ugly it is

ugly equals hardy...
