Hey. I'll be heading to Vegas next April(2015). I just want to get some info off you....
Now I know it's a while away but we have nothing arranged yet.
1. Where to stay??....
Now I'm an average guy, with an income to match. I don't need the presidential suite in the MGM!!. Just somewhere decent, on the strip and close to all the action
2. Where to go. I like the slots but I'm not going there just for that. I'd like to see more than the inside of a casino.
3. Where to eat/drink. I'm human, so I like to eat. I'm Irish too, so don't mind a the odd drink either....haha. Again somewhere decent, maybe a step up from MacDonalds/KFC but not Michelin Star either.
4. Anywhere to get married!!. My GF and I may tie the knot over there but don't want the cheesy Elvis thing(no offence to anyone who has done this). I know there are a million places to get married in Vegas but I need something decent. Again this may not happen, just something we talked about once or twice.
5. Any tips at all. Do's and don'ts. Where to avoid.
I know there are people on here from Vegas, I'd particually love to hear from you. It would be nice to get some advice from someone who lives there and knows the area but I will of course appreciate advice from anyone who has been there.....Ian

When I went there all I could see was casinos. There was nothing else to do. I ended up taking my family to the Grand Canyon that was 5 hours away. You can also do the Hoover Dam. Its only 45 minutes away.

Hover dam is really cool to see. I'm pretty sure that the new bridge over it is completed now so if you go out that way, make sure to take the road that goes down to the dam.

As for casinos, Freemont Street is a must. The covered walkway and show is awesome, as well as the casinos there have a better pay out on slots. (statistically speaking) The whole environment in that area is great.

Look into some of the shows too. Penn and Teller is a blast. also have the blue man group and the Cirque du Soleil shows that are very fun to watch.

When I am able to go down, I usually check what's going on at lasvegas.com for specials and such.

I was on that site, lasvegas.com. I can go to Vegas for the same price as going to Spain!!.
I don't plan on driving over there, so is there a daytrip of some sort to Hover Dam??. Yeah I want to take in some of the shows too, not just slots. No point in going somewhere and just seeing the inside of a building...lol. I know MGM or the Mirage are probably the best to stay in. Is that where you stay or do you have another hotel you stay???

I usually stay at the gold coast with family. My dad has been a member there for decades and gets free suite promos throughout the year so its a family trip. They're off the strip, across the freeway. Also stayed at the mgm (my favorite but expensive), Rio, and circus circus (lots of kids there). Haven't stayed anywhere else

We'll probably end up going to the MGM. It's not really that much more expensive for us. We are debating on whether to bring the kids with us. I looked at the circus circus hotel but it's hard to tell about these hotels from their own reviews!!!. The 'kids' will be nearly 15 when we go so, once they have wifi access for the ipads/iphones, they are happy...lol. Is Vegas a place to bring kids in general or best not to. Any other do's/don'ts tips???

If you're going to stay on the strip (especially if you have kids) stay at the circus circus. It's one of the cheapest and its not half bad. They have a buffet and this theme park called the adventure dome with lots of rides and attractions. What time of the year are you planning on going ? I strongly do not reccomend coming anytime around may-October, I mean unless you enjoy 119 degree dry weather. It's terrible. The best months are November-march, April is alright too. Another thing is if you're going to go walking on the strip, bring your own water bottles. Shops/stand by people will charge you usually around $5 a bottle. The best place to buy souvineers(spelling?) for a decent price is the bonanza gift shop (this is actually the largest gift shop in the world, it's pretty neat) or Fremont street experience shops. Freemont is also a good place for drinks, not really bars there but there are servers and many other things, theres performers and all kinds of stuff, including te world's largest working digital screen. Since you're on aquarium advice, maybe you'll want to see an aquarium ? The best place in town is the Mandalay bay's shark reef, it's a little pricey but its so worth it. Other animal attractions would be the mirage's sigfryied and Roy's secret tiger garden, I haven't been there in a few years but last time I was there they let us feed dolphins and go underground to watch them swim. :) if you're looking to spend a bit more money on food, one of the best places on the strip is the Wynn's buffet, my favorite. Personally I think the Aria and Ceasar's palace has the nicest casino ground. That's all I can think of haha any questions ?

Thanks a million twiddlemuffin. That's some great information. We plan on going mid April so we won't be baked alive. We are not used to hot weather like that over here. If we get mid twenties(Celsius), it's time to break out the shorts and tee-shirts....haha. Thanks again for that info and if I have anymore questions, which I'm sure I will, i'll be in touch with you!!!....Ian

Oh your gonna have a blast ian! Take pics for sure! We like pics here!!!
Yeah can't wait. There is about 10 of us going so far. It's a friends 40th birthday. I'm sure there will be more added to that number as we get closer. I sure will take tons of pictures, especially the big aquariums. I may end up going there on my own!!. Ah well, there'll be nobody to tell me to hurry up:dance:. Maybe I might take a trip to ATM too while I'm there. I'll say hello to them from everyone at AA!!!

Haha pics or it didn't happen!!! Tell them I'm still waiting on an email about that 24'x24'x10' tank quote!

Hubs says there is a water park somewhere and there is a roller coaster on top of New York New York. Kids are NOT allowed to go in the casinos but he says that a lot of the casinos have arcades, motion rides, etc. The Fremont St. Experience was really cool, and Cirque de Soleil was also! It has been almost 10 years since I went to Vegas though.

*edit* you're going to need SPF like... 300 since you are coming from Ireland. LOL!

Water park, yes, roller coaster, no thanks!!. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to them. It must be getting covered in my own puke that puts me off...haha. I think there is a roller coaster on the Stratosphere Hotel too??. I'll stick to the Casinos and the Shows, thank you very much:cool::cool:

I never made it to the Stratosphere, it way waaaay down the strip from where my family was staying (the Flamingo).
