LFS advice on not skimming?

so im just starting up my 65gal reef tank. i got all the basic equip. and saltwater is looking good. so i go to my lfs to buy the rock and sand, and the guy who gives me advice says i shouldnt run my skimmer while my tank cycles? ive never heard this before so i gotta ask the experts. the rock is partially cured (didnt smell too bad) and i got 90#of it + 60# of carib sea live sand. so what do you guys think????

I didnt run a skimmer while I cycling my tank I dont see the point. Once you start stocking it then run it

It will not hurt you to run a skimmer during the cycle, it will also not really help. If there are no DOC in the water (as in a new and cycling tank) the skimmer will serve no purpose. Once the cycle is complete and you begin stocking and feeding you will begin to see skimmer collection.
