It really annoys me how much bad advice one can get from even supposed Cichlid specialists. I have a pair of Venestus in my 55 that are obvoisly going to get to big for that tank. I stopped in at the only non-chain LFS in my area to say "Hi, remember those two Venestus that you sold me several months ago and said would be perfect for my 55? Well they can get up to 11 inches so I should probably rehome them. Would you be willing to trade-up? " and was told "11 inches? Only in the wild" and then shortly thereafter I was told "Well, really any 'Africans' will get up to 11 inches." I felt like saying "I will give you $1,000 if you can find an 11 inch Yellow Lab...even in the wild" instead I just said "ok thanks for your time" and bailed out of there for the last time.

I can tell you that I have had a good share of bad advice from every LFS, chain or mom-pop, that I have walked into. It drives me crazy. Buyer Beware with any LFS, no matter how many years they say they have been in business.

I agree. I never get new fish or equipment without researching it first. I dont ever simply take the advice of one person about something that is new to me. Buyer beware
