guys, i have another question. How effective is reef sand at making an ecosystem in your tank? Whats your favorite kind? does it come with alot of pods that will allow me to keep a mandarin goby? What site has good live sand and ships to canada? Can i add it onto my curent sandbed (crushed coral)?

thanks

Live sand is basically aragonite impregnated with nitrafying bacteria. Pods are seeded into the system from LR, not substrate. To help pod populations in a system, run a refugium.

To get a good sandbed going, add at least a couple of inches of aragonite, then top it off with live sand. OK to put on top of existing crushed coral.

Reef sand such as aragonite is softer and dissolves at a higher pH value than crushed coral (8.0 vs 7.8). Aragonite makes a better natural buffer.

adding crushed aragonite to a tank w/ live rock will provide the same benefits after a few weeks
