Can live shells live in SW aquariums? The reason I ask is that I grew up as a Navy brat and was lucky enough to be stationed on Guam for 5 years. I had an incredible seashell collection that I gathered from the reef almost every day after school with many having the original critter still living inside. Some of these were even poisonous, if I remember right, but most were homes to hermit crabs. It would be just fabulous to have these in an aquarium.

It is not the shell you have to worry about...its whats inside that you need to keep alive. There are several varieties of shelled critters for the home SW tank. Crabs, snails, limpits, etc.
