An not sure if my male kribensis is stressed out, but his black horizon changes color very frequently starting two days ago and it is scaring me.

During the weekend, I ran out of conditioner and could not perform my pwc so my parameters were
Ammonia: .25ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 20-40ppm

I thought due to poor water, it was being stressed out since I see absolutely no aggression in the tank. He also recently paired up with the female kribensis which I had in the tank for about two months now.

So I did a 50% pwc today and my parameters were:
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 5ppm-10ppm

Could it be my nitrate? The color goes on and off. It gets dark and later it becomes pale. I have a lot of caves, rocks and driftwood for it to hide in. Also I think the kribensis may start spawning since I saw them looking for a good cave together.

It is a 55g tank with the following fish
2 kribensis
5 large danios
3 tiger barbs
2 albino tiger barb
2 red wag platy
2 Mickey mouse platy
1 sunburst platy
1 albino bn pleco
1 silver tipped shark (3 inches, will move it when it gets large)

I also use a emperor 400 if that helps.

Turns out there's an ich outbreak. Might be due to my dad unplugging the heater the other night :(

Doing the salt and heat treatment.
