Is anyone her a member of these great societies? A lot of my fish and every coral i own came from the auction/raffles at these meetings.
SAS meets the first Satuday of the moth and is a FW society. It isnt as organized as MARS, but the raffle tickets are chead, and it is a great place to find new plants. They also have a findig once a year, where a conference is held over a weekend with spekears, retailers, and a auctions on over a dozen long table of fish, plants, equipment, food, etc.
MARS meets the third friday of the month, and is a marine society. There speakers are great, they even had bob fenner at a meeting. He talked about algae and signed copies of his Marine Invertabrates book, which were sold at a very low price. We also had the person in charge of the coral reef section of the montery bay aquarium come and talk. The raffle is a great place to get coral frags, and a friend Dave Garcia will give you a ziploc bag of some of his amazing sand if you are a newbie in need. They have sand swaps wheree everyone brings a cup of sand, they mix it with new sand, and dish out all of it with so much more biodeversity. They also have coral fregging sessions, where they get together with BAR, a SF society.
So come down to one, ask for ben Driscoll, and you will get to see 14 year fish nerd in person  . if at the MARS meeting, ask to talk to dan garcia, cuz he is very knowegable.
P.S. each of these societies gives away an eclipse 6 of 12 system at the meeting
P.P.S. The saturday after the mars meeting, aqualife gives 20% off to MARS members!
