Metal halide question

I have a Hamilton halide hood ( 175w 10k 110 VHO) and I was told I could put a 250w HQI ballast and still use the single ended bulbs..

is this right? I am not sure and want to make sure before I buy a HQI balalst and put normal bulbs in it and have no change. I am upgrading to 250w but there was no price difference for HQI , do I need special bulbs or are normal SE bulbs ok?

Most HQI ballasts run either single mogul sockets or double ended sockets of the same wattage. I say most...you will have to check with the brand of ballast that you get and make sure.
