Please don't get me wrong here. I'm not suggesting that you don't need beneficial bacteria. All I said was that the plants like to consume it too and they tend to be better at it than the bacteria. The actual effect really depends on how heavily planted your tanks are though and of what type you got. I'm not talking about just a few ferns... I'm talking about heavy planting. But in general you will see a softer cycle with a heavily planted aquarium as opposed to a bare aquarium. Oh... and yes plants will take only small amounts in but that is what we are talking about right? We test ammonia in ppm.
