I'm not sure about cories, but I know bettas don't do well with guppies.

Some bettas can do fine with guppies actually. But not all. You'd have better luck with females. As for cories, I would say most are fine. Any I have tried ignored the cories. Depends on your fish.

It is not absolutely necessary, you can go without them if you need to, but it is definitely advised.

They need a heater. A filter is optional, but it will keep a cleaner, healthier tank.

No. If the male likes the female. If he doesn't like her...he'll kill her.

Bettas and corys are fine together but you will need a filter if you're keeping corys. Corys have a habit of kicking up dust and debris so if there's no filter your water will become cloudy fast

It depends on the Betta. I had one slaughter young Panda Cories.
And yes, a heater and adjustable flow filter are recommended.
