I desided on the Visi Jet because I am not planning on corals (If I get corals I really like the polyps and mushrooms, not much else though, I just like the looks of these two. Which are also really hardy) so I didnt think I would really need super skimming power, I am mostly going to have fish and invertabrates.

The lighting hood cannot be longer than 16" to fit in the new canopy-to-be (hexes have odd sizes) so I desided to go with that.

The Powerhead I was going to go with 160GPH one originally, but I know pumps can slow down over time, and I didnt want to make it too slow or too fast (I figure I could run it more along the sides if this is too fast).

The filter is more of a wishlist item, the others I really need to get. There is really nothing wrong with this one that I have. Mostly just a wishlist.

So what do you think?

That light fixture only has a 14w bulb. What exactly are you going to be able to put under that? That's less than a 1/2 watt per gallon.
The skimmer is a hang in the tank model. Will you have enough room inside the tank for this to hang?
The aquaclear is a pretty good brand but I would go with the 70 model which will turn your tank 10 times per hour which is recommended.


Here are my recommendations and are only my opinions.
Get the aquaclear70, don't get the skimmer(since you don't plan on having many corals), IMO the ph is optional because the bigger filter will have your water jumping, and you are going to have to go back to the drawing board on the lighting because you simply must have (IMO)at least 60 to 90 watts or more.

These are the only 16" that I could find, and I think I will use them (im not planning on anything rare). I really couldnt find anything other than this thing, and I dont want to custom make something. The light I have now is 17 watts and the guy before me kept all kinds of corals and anenomaes in it just fine.

I think I want to stick with the smaller flow rate filter, and a Powerhead, because since hexes are so much taller there isnt much circulation in the bottom.

I had a skimmer in there before, its a larger one than this one (A 90 gallon model).

I do not need a skimmer at all you are saying?

I think I need some more explination on the lighting thing, and I really need to know for sure if I need a skimmer.

BTW I am planning on 1-2 anenomaes (not more) and the only corals I will plan on will be mushrooms, zoos, or poylps (nothing really hard to keep).

With 1-2 anemones you're going to need serious lighting. Research that before buying (or before deciding that you need to have the anemone). Even those other corals will want closer to 2-4 wpg rather than 1/2! As for the skimmer until you decide to go corals you can do without the skimmer all together. Save your money and get one when you really need one.

I cant find 16" lights at 204 wpg

I find retrofit kits but they are out of my price range.

It will be a while before I want an anenmae so I think I will stick with this for now.

Dude this will rock your 30 Hex and its 16". The only way your going to have enough light out of a 14w bulb to support an anemone is if you keep the anemone in a mason jar with the bulb resting on the water. Light hurts, but its soo worth it in the end. I would be patient, save up, get some boo ya lighting and then move forward if you want anemones.

Still applies for you. It's tough to get light to the bottom of a hex. That light could work, you might want 25o watt.

To high as in when its sitting in the canopy it would not fit in the canopy I am making.

I found a 56 watt that I think I will try.
