Natural sunlight

I am looking for a distinction about natural sunlight:
Putting a tank next to a window is clearly a *questionalbe* call. My 20 gal GSP tank is in a room with LOTS of natural sunlight, although the path of the sunlight passes below the tank (by a foot!). Should I expect to get the same levels of sunlight as though it were in direct sunlight?
Any experience with flirting with natural sunlight?

Everytime indirect sunlight hits my tanks, I get green algae blooms on the glass & on the sand. No algae growth in the shadows.

You will get wonderful algae blooms.

If the sunlight isn't direct (like it passes through thin curtains) then it shouldn't do much to your tank.
Anything more direct, is kinda like playing with fire...you'll probably get burned at some point.

Could be an interesting experiment, if you don't mind the consequences.
