What kind of filter do you have on the 10g? If you can, move it over to the new tank to help cycle the new tank.
I've read up on removing my filter but doesn't the 10g need that bacteria in order to still be cycled?

On my 10g I have an Aquaclear 20 filter with two sponges in it. Were I starting a new tank, I'd add one sponge from the old filter to the new to seed it. The old one doesn't lose its cycle that way. Depending on your filters, you may be able to do something similar.
