Here are some pics of my 46 gal Column tank. I am setting it up for a cichlid tank. I am not totally sure what type just yet but I love the bright yellow, blue, and orange ones I sure in the variety tanks. I was half way through cycling then I rearanged everything and pulled my DW out because it was forming some fungus on it. SO I boiled it.

What do you think. Any suggestions?

I would advise against african cichlids as they need at least a 55 gallon 4ft aquarium. They generally require a higher stocking level to help with aggresion and that tank will not allow that. Plus they will grow to 6-8in in length.

I agree with Hukit, the tank just doesn't have the swimming room needed for an african tank. Still lots of options, especially since you're going to have several levels for fish to swim, just not any that need alot of vertical swimming room.

Do you mean just Africans or just Cichlids in general?

no, not cichlids in general... not even africans really. Definitely not lake malawi africans, but i'm thinking there are some tanganyikans that would be fine in there, definitely some of the shell dwellers. There are alot of sa/ca cichlids that will work fine in that tank. Rams, apistos, maybe angels? I dont know much about any of them though

I'm sure you could house some species of rams or a pair of kribs but stay away from the larger Africans and south Americans.

There are some very colorful German blue rams, cockato cichlids stay small but are expensive...there are other dwarf options just do your research.
