Aquarium Advice Newbie
Hi everyone, I am really hoping to find some support here since I am currently floundering through a fish IN cycle that doesn't seem to be moving along at all. My 9 year old got a 36 gal bowfront for Christmas (her actual goal was a tank large enough for her to play in WITH the fish!) We set it up on the 27th of December and on the advice of the fish store added fish after New Years weekend. For weeks we had no ammonia, no nitrites, no nitrates. Then had a spike of ammonia to .5. Did 35% water change and ammonia was 0. Then a week later had a spike of ammonia to .5. Did another partial water change. Another week now we have a spike to 1.0 of ammonia. Still no nitrates, no nitrites. Do I just need to keep waiting? What should I do to encourage the bacteria to grow and take care of the ammonia? Why isn't it growing? We have lost some fish which is killing me but I really don't know what else to do.
