Ok so we just picked up a 45gallon tank and my wife decided she doesn't want a tank with all small fish. Was just looking for some ideas since we are new to this. Tank will not be setup for a week or so still finishing the room it will be in.

Yea I know about cycling. I'm going to do fishless cycle. I'm just getting info on stuff ahead of time so when time comes I have all the I go needed to make decisions.

I have 45 gallon tank
Aqueon 36 delux hood t8 bulb
Marineland 350 filter
Aqueon pro 150w heater
API master freshwater test kit
Prime

Looking into which t5 bulb to get see my other thread.

Any other suggestions for stuff to get to start

I have a 55 gal and my "big" fish are a green severum and 2 eartheaters. You might look those up and see if you like them. I love my green severum, Bruce. He always looks like he's scowling.

The first fish that come to mind are angels, gouramis, SA cichlids, and African cichlids.

Ok, what you should do is test your tap water's ph, and go to your town's water site to find your water hardness.
