1~What type of fish is afflicted? Started with 3 glow eye Tetras and 3 black skirt Tetras on 8/6. As of 8/9 I am down to 1 glow eye and 1 black skirt.
2~What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp, pH)?
0 ppm on ammonia and nitrate. pH is 6.8. Temp stays constant at 76 without need for a heater.
3~ How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up? 20 gallon tank. It was setup on 8/4 and fish added 8/6. I am aware this was incorrect. I did a 50% water change on 8/9 and purchased a master test kit to start monitoring the water.
4~What type of filtration are you using? TopFin HOB Silentstream 20 Power filter.
5~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes? 2 remain- 1 glow eye tetra and 1 black skirt tetra. Both are less than 2 inches.
6~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time? I vacuumed the gravel and removed 50% of the water on 8/9.
7~How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them? Again, a mistake- I just dumped them into the tank. Fish were purchased on 8/6.
8~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.? All new decor was added when tank was setup on 8/4. I used quick start and water conditioner when it was new and with the water change.
9~What kind of food have you been feeding your fish, have you changed their diet recently? Fluval Bug Bites Tropical Formula Flakes

So I am new to this again (I haven't had a tank since I was a kid). I rushed to setup the tank for my daughter's 4th birthday. I lost 4 of the 6 fish then performed a 50% water change out as recommended from my post in the newbie section. I was only using test strips prior to 8/9 so I could not monitor ammonia. Since the 50% water change out the levels appear to be maintaining but the remaining 2 fish will not eat. They don't appear to be sick but they refuse to eat. I put a few flakes in 3 times a day and they won't even come towards the food. Any ideas?

Thanks for providing all that info.

You missed adding the NitrIte reading. Any Nitrite is bad and water changes should be done to bring it down to 0.

Checking the water before the water change is more helpful, in case you did it afterwards.

Usually the fish would eat. If they had internal damage they may be trying to heal.

It is easy to look back and see mis-steps for a positive experience. I am so sorry that this was your experience. It is a rotten way to start out.

Now you are getting used to and learning the better way to do things which is good!

These last 2 fish may not make it just to be frank.

But if you can keep the water in excellent condition, it is the top priority for giving them a chance.

A 20G is a decent size tank and you will be able to get more fish after it stabilizes more.

You are doing a fish-in cycle now because you have fish in the tank while building beneficial bacteria / BB in the filter pad and some degree in the substrate and will be the gold standard for water keeping. It takes around 8 weeks to get a fully cycled tank when doing a fishless cycle, where there are no fish in the tank and you add an ammonia source for feeding BB to grow the colony and create enough of them for the BB to process the ammonia from fish waste and uneaten food to go through the nitrification cycle and end up with safe water, and this constantly happens so there is a safe level in your tanks all the time. (unless something is done to upset the cycle, like adding in too many fish at a time or washing the filter pad in tap water, or having some plants "melt"/ die off/ rot and foul the water).

Big thing now is to not rinse off the filter pad with tap water which has chlorine/chloramine and kill off BB.

The link in my signature is an article about all that and good useful tips for fish and water keeping!

You can try squeezing some raw clove of garlic juice onto the food it can help with appetite stimulation.

In my case, when they don't want to eat it's that they're either sick (so sorry to hear that!) or bad quality flakes - I'd recommend to make sure to buy fish flakes for their fish species.
