I bought 2 African leaf fish at pet smart 3 days ago and noticed a significant wound on one of them once I got them home. It is about the size of his eye just behind the top of his gill plate and flesh colored...like a small hole. The next day there was another smaller one behind that. I have a 37-40 gal that I started in June. Temp 80 no2-0, no 3 10, amo 0, pH 6.8. I would like to treat before it becomes worse, but I've read that certain meds have oils that sit at the surface of the water and interfere with anabantoids breathing as they gulp air at the surface. I also have catfish (cories, oil cat, and feather fins) that are sensitive to certain meds. I was thinking of daily water changes with stress coat, but is there a medication I can use that is safe if this gets worse? Oh, and he is acting fine, not stressed, eating fine and swimming around investigating his new home.

Perhaps you may want to return the little guy and let petsmart heal him up

Im sure theyll replace him
