I have a good deal of algae in my tank and just added an Oto. He's happily sucking away. Is the tank's algae enough for him? I bought spirulina discs and added one on Day One -- my three platies ate it and promptly became very bloated (I was really worried -- thought they were all coming down with something). Second question: is it safe for them?

the platies - I am not sure...may have eaten too fast...got gas or something.

The otos will eat up that algae in no time. When the algae is gone, the best thing to supplement with is veggies - cucumber, zucchini and broccoli stalks are just a few of them.

did you drop the waffer in during the day? I've found that if I drop waffers in after lights out, it gives my ottos a chance to get the food first since everyone else is sleeping (in the sort of way that fish sleep). When I turn on the tank lights in the morning, my ottos are nibbling on them. I figure all the rest of the fish pick up the scraps during the day.
