That's not going to do a whole lot..... it pretty much needs a constant flow through it, not over it. If you don't have place in your sump to do that, a small reactor off to the side of the sump would be better... they have a very small footprint, and are relatively cheap.
You could trickle it through the filter sock probably, or stick it in between chambers like seen. THese will work, but not as effectively as using things in a reactor. Prior to getting my reactors, I used put media into a filter sock on the sump and liked everything but cleaning the socks.
