pleco problems

i have had no luck with plecos. i just got him today and he was fine eating algae and stuff i got him a piece of drift wood and put in an algae wafer for him and today when i get home he is floating at the top of the tank letting out air bubbles and swimming like his fin is hurt. i am so upset is there anything i can do for this guy

You don't happen to have any salt in the water, do you? Also: have you checked your water parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates)?

i did have fossilized coral rocks in there that i got from pets mart but after that happen he went back down to the bottom and i cannot find him anywhere =/
