Plescostamus are algae eating fish. They are gentle, and are great community fish. They mainly get along very good with guppies, mollies, and other non aggresive species. Plecostamus originate from South America. They clean up the tank very well.
Plecos are nocturnal fish, meaning they are more active during twilight hours. If you have a few in your tank, be sure to supply some hiding spots. These fish like to hide during the daytime. If you go to feed them, make sure of all times, you feed them at night.
Remember, these guys grow to be pretty big. Keep in mind that the bigger the tank you have, the bigger they will get! There are many different types of species of Plecostamus. They are bottom-feeder fish, meaning that you can buy Algae Tablet fish food for them. The tablets will sink to the bottom of the tank. Don't expect them to eat it right away. He/she will eat it when the aquarium light is off, anf when it is dark.
We all know that male and female Plecos look alike. But the only way to tell their gender is to look at their forehead, believe it or not. Females have narrow foreheads, while males have somewhat flatter, broader foreheads.
