plumbing/placing a mag 24

I have a mag 24 that I plan to run externally. Can I place the pump on its side so that the return is facing upward? If not then I wold have to attach a female adapter to the outlet and then an elbow to run the water up. I'd rather not connect the extra elbow if not necessary.

The face of the pump can be removed and positioned in a number of ways. But yes you can put it on it's side...

The pump is too heavy and thin on its side. I tried but it just tips over. I have ditched the idea of using this pump. too loud. See my other post in equipment forum.
