Is it nessasary to have a power head for a 30g?

Good water movement is always important. You can buy a small one to fit that size tank

I have 3 powerheads in my 36 bowfront. 2 750s and a 550 in the back. But I have coral, in a FOWLR you don't need that much flow. Just enough to keep the water moving.
