prefilter or biomax in sump

My 55 gallon FOWLR is currently on day 2 of cycling. I was just curious, can I add biomax or pre filter in the sump? These are both just the Fluval ones and I happen to have an excess amount. I currently have a deep sand bed, Live Rock, and a small Chaeto ball in the refugium portion of the sump, and was just curious if I can either just spread some bio max and pre filter, or if I should bag it and then place it in the refugium, or maybe it's a bad idea all together. Any feedback would be very helpful. Thanks
