Well the menu at the bottom has more options than are shown. Maybe you just can't see the message icon. So try sliding the menu left or right.

Yes but I have the icon but it says I can't access it.

When there is an issue with the iPhone version of the app you should try:
1) Remove the app.
2) Reboot the device.
3) Update IOS.
4) Reboot the device.
5) Reinstall the app.
