Hello all, I'm new to the site and to the hobby. I have a quick question. I own a pond and it's common to add good bacteria for the bio- filter. Just wondering why it's not the same way for aquariums? Thanks in advance.

You develop good bacteria by cycling the tank, typically you want to avoid adding chemicals to the tank besides a good water dechlor such as Prime. Once you add fish they keep the bio-filter established from their waste.
