All the sudden my mail jewel cichlid is turning a fiery red. There is a smaller female in the tank with him. As of now he is guarding a specific spot in the tank and turning a brilliant red . He seems to be chasing away other fish from the center of the tank. Almost fighting them to claim his territory. He doesn't seem to be trying to mate with the smaller female or even bothering the smaller fish in the tank. I have had him for 3 years and have never seen him do this before. Could anyone explain to me what is happening? Thank you for your responses.
