Questions about starting nano

Hi---
New questions keep popping into my head as I plan my aquapod.
If I keep lights off during cycling, will I loose the coralline algae and other live stuff on the LR.? If I use some light will it cause bad algae? Will a few hours a day of light keep coralline alive and limit bad algae and if so how long should I keep lights on? Also, If I want shallow sand bed what mm size aragonite sand is best?

I've heard that some people run actinic's during their curing/cycle to promote coralline from not losing their color.

The worry is that high levels of ammonia during your cycle, with lots of light, is a recipe for major algae issues.

I guess llight to keep coralline alive will keep other kinds of bad algae alive too.

You will most likely see an algae bloom, not much you can do to prevent it in a new tank. Just takes a bit more scrubbing at first until the tank is established. Just focus really hard on keeping prestine water conditions to the best of your ability and having the right amount of clean-up crew then the algae over time won't stand a chance. Do you use RO/DI water?

Yes--will use ro/di water only. So lights on or off-what would you do?

I wouldnt bother keeping your lights on, all it will do is make ur algae problems worse during the cycle. I wouldnt worry about your coraline algae until after the cycle, if it is there it will come back and it will come back fast !!!
