Reef safe or not? Unknown starfish

Hey everyone, I original posted this information in the "identification" section but did not get much feedback. Hoping to get more info...anyway, a Friend of mine bought this starfish for their tank, and I've never seen it before and at first glance it struck me as probably not reef safe lol


In addition, he and his wife said "yeah it sits on top of the corals sometimes" and pointed out an area of green star polyp that the star fish had allegedly eaten away at it. For now, it is in their sump ( I put it down there) Any info on this bugger will be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Pin Cushion Seastar they are carnivores.

Most starfish are carnivores....but what does it eat?

Well I don't think they have been specifically feeding it, but it was allegedly eating star polyps.

Molluscs, worms, detritus and each other. In a reef aquarium most likely it will eat corals.

Yeah not the same star fish at all

Sorry it was my best guess. Maybe better lighting would show its true color.
