Sad day in my fish tank...

Came home to find all my goldfish in my 36 gallon cowering in the corner. Upon closer inspection I found that they had somehow knocked the basket part of my canister filter off and a fish got stuck up in there and died. Very sad.
Should I replace all the media and everything inside the filter?
It had been in there for about two-three hours. Poor fish!!
Anything else I need to do? The tank was cloudy and had a bunch of algae growing.

Frankly, I'd just remove the poor dead guy, do a pwc, clean the filter, but not replace the media. It's a bummer for sure.

I'd figure out a way to keep it from happening again.
