I have put down sand as my substrate an it has been at least 12 hours and there is still sand that has not settled. Is there anything I can do?

Welcome to AA. Depending on what type of sand you used ... Pool Filter (more recommended) vs Playground sand .... It's just the fine dust of the sand ... it should clear up in a day or so. The current of your filter's enough to keep it the particles suspended. PWC's should help to clear it up faster.
Moving forward put PFS in a pillow case then hold it under your shower. The finer dust passes through the case, while the coarser stays behind.
