I am starting the fishless cycle for my 29 gallon tank. I have a friend who has a healthy 30 gallon tank for over 2 years now. What is the best seeding material for me to get from him? Some tank water, gravel, filter water, filter material? Others?

Thanks

There's definitely others out there that are more knowledgable than I am, but I do remember people saying that filter media, aka filter cartridges and the floss pieces, are best, but getting gravel or plants will definitely help. Tank water won't really do much good since the BB (beneficial bacteria) lives mainly in the filter and filter media and on gravel and plants.

Filter material is the only thing you'll want: sponges, bio-media or even old carbon would be perfect.
