Seeding

I am cycling a 55g planted. The nitrites have been off the charts for about a week now. I still have some ammonia since the first dosing which is weird, but it has lowered. Nitrates are pretty high as well, ~80. I thought I'd speed it up by seeding from my other tank. However the other tank has a HOB filter with cartridge and this is a canister. Is there a possible way I can seed the canister?

You have two options. 1. Drain the canister filter, take the carrtridge out of the hob and squeeze it over the media in the cannister, and hook the cannister back up (less effective). 2. Cut the cartridge up from the hob and place some of the media in the cannister (more work but more effective).
