Shrimp Question!

I have 2 red cherry shrimp in my 12g tank. They hide in one plant all the time and I don't think they ever come out. I see them once in a while poke out from a leaf. This morning I got up and there is a shell of a shrimp hanging out of one leaf. Do they shed their exo-skeleton or did one of my shrimp die?

They do molt, and the molt can look like a dead shrimp. He's probably fine. He'll go into hiding for a few days (even more than normal) while his new shell hardens.
