Hey Guys and Gals,

I am new to this form and thought I would ask for some help here. I have a sick Flower horn and I need some input. Knock on wood I have not lost any fish yet and it seem to be only this one FH that is showing signs of this white cotton like groth on his\her back.

I tried to answer all these questions to the best of my knowledge and please ask should you have more questions.

Picture of sick fish attached...

1~What type of fish is afflicted? Flower horn about 4 inches long with cotton like growth.
2~What are your tank parameters? I use test strips that are still fresh and they all indicate no ammonia and no nitrates. Sorry I cant be more specific.
3~ How large is the tank? How long has the tank been set up? 130 gallons and about 3 months
4~What type of filtration are you using? Please give the name and number. 2 x Fluval FX5's 400-800 gallons per hour.
5~How many fish are in the tank? What kinds of fish are they and what are their current sizes? 6 Flower horns 4"-6". 1 x Blood Parrot 8". 3 x Pleco's 1"-3". 1 X Jaguar Cichlid 8"
6~When is the last time you did a water change and vacuum the gravel? How often do you do this? How much water do you remove at a time? 50% water change last night when I noticed the sick fish, other wise 25% a month. I vacuum my gravel twice a year and I am very cautious to not over feed my fish I only feed what they can eat. My water is crystal clear with no rotting food anywhere.
7~How long have you had the fish? If the fish is new, how did you acclimate it/them? I have had the fish for about 3 months now and they all seem pretty happy except this one.
8~Have you added anything new to the tank--decor, new dechlorinator, new substrate, etc.? Only my UV sanitizer is new, which is unplugged now.
9~What kind of food have you been feeding your fish, have you changed their diet recently? Did not change their diet. I feed them cichlid pellets and beef hearts.

I have to add that thinking back on this I know I made a rookie mistake. I changed all the media in my FX5's at once and I added the UV sanitizer at about the same time and I know I made too may changes too soon and most likely removed all the good bacteria from the tank and the UV sanitizer took care of all the good stuff in the water.

I should have known better and I do I was obviously not thinking but the damage is done. Now what do I do.

I did a 50% water change last night and I treated the tank with Marine Land All in one remedy (Find more info on that product here)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

My recommendation is to shift the fish to a hospital tank & treat with strong doses of Malachite Green, rock salt

I am currently adding 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt for every 10 gallons of water, I read online I can add 1 tablespoon for each gallon is that correct could I do so?

I would go to max of 2 table spoons per 10G. Important to start Malachite Green
