Sick Goldfish

My goldfish has a sort of mouth problem. It's been weeks. I was treating it and it completely went away..... and then came back twice as bad. his mouth is red and swollen. I had been doing 50% water changes and treating with melafix, and it got better. so i'm assuming its a bacteria problem. once it was better, i stopped doing daily changes and started doing changes about twice a week and stopped adding melafix. i put he carbon filter back in and left him in the quarantine tank. and then it came back.

is there anything i could be doing better? he's still swimming and eating but seems kind of miserable.

Yes, saw this and thought bacterial infection very possible. How's the gravel? Nothing sharp he could be getting cuts on or anything? Just looking at the trigger.


Melafix is mainly for low level infections. I'd go for say Furan 2 now (eg in tetra fungus guard).
