It is probably stupid question but I'm literally "in diapers" with the fish deal (but know a lot about kids health and cats!) My 2.5 gal starter betta tank showed elevated ph and nitrates (or could be nitrites, not sure what the petco guy said last night), My water is also hard. He said ammonia was ok and so was everything else. The fish seem ok (eating, playing, looking good). He told me to get a bottle of PRIME (freshwater and saltwater sol) and treat the tank directly with the fish in it. I got the bottle but the idea of putting some chemical in with live fish makes me nervous. On the bottle it says "removes Chlorine, ammonia, detoxifies nitrite and nitrates, provides slime coat". Per my calculation for my 2.5 I'd only use 0.25 ml of this stuff. Asking all the freshwater tropical fish experts out there if you think it's safe, or any other suggestions? Please?
