snail without a shell

can a snail loose its shell? looks like I have a snail without a shell. Is this possible?

well the only snails I have is margarita snails and nerite snails. this animal in my tank looks like a slug smooth body with tentacles coming out of his head

nope I do not see the shell....thta is why I wonder where it is coming from

Sounds like a sea slug/hare

How big is it? Snails grow their own shells. He may have lost it in a battle with another snail or something.

Sounds like a baby! I had babies a few weeks ago(ugh). I'm not sure how it differs from saltwater, but mine grew shells in about a week but they didn't start out with one.

No snails do not lose there shell. a pic would help alot

I am pretty sure it is a slug..should i remove it

It depends. What color is it? If its just a sea hare it should be fine, their great algea eaters. Is it brightly colored? If so I would remove it asap

just a grey color, no color other then that
