Keep in mind Rach, I have 1.5 wpg and have achieved results like this without too much fuss, so don't give up on the low-light tank.

I found it at my lfs, just sitting in the back of the store collecting dust. I have no idea of what type of wood it is but it was nailed to a large piece of slate saving me a lot of trouble.

I have the stock light on my 29 gallon and have plants growing out the top of my tank with less than 1 wpg. I don't dose ferts at all or really do much of anything. With the right combination of plants it can be done.
